In 1983 President Ronald Reagan signed into law Martin Luther King Jr. Day commemorating the birthday of the slain civil rights leader. Dr. King’s famous “I have a dream” speech was delivered from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to over 200,000 people. In this Landsat 4 image, light clouds are found over D.C., but the network of the capital’s wide avenues can still be seen.
