Cyprus is the Mediterranean Sea’s third largest island; it lies to the east of Greece and south of Turkey. By 8200 BC Cyprus had settled villages and the island is home to the world’s oldest known water wells—dating from between 9,000 and 15,000 years ago.

In this image vegetation is green, bare-ground is brown and tan, man-made structures are grey, and water is dark blue.

This Landsat 7 mosaic was acquired in July and August of 2002. The image was created using ETM+ bands 3, 2, and 1. Cyprus fall on WRS-2 Paths 175 & 176 Rows 35 & 36.
