Wyoming is the second largest producer of natural gas in the United States, with 20 of their 23 counties producing natural gas. There are more then 38,000 wells, which produced 2.11 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in 2006.
In the early 1990s Jonah Field was one of the biggest on-shore natural gas fields found. It is located in the Green River Basin in Sublette County, Wyoming and covers an area of 21,000 acres. There are over 500 wells currently in Jonah Field and another 3,100 are planned.
At the top is a Landsat 7 natural color pan-sharpened mosaic image using bands 3,2, and 1. The images were aquired on August 10, 2006 and fall on WRS-2 Path 37 and Rows 30 and 31. The bright green highlights in the black and white image to the right indicate placement of natural gas wells in Jonah Field.
