Karshi (Qarshi) is the capital of Uzbekistan’s Qashqadaryo Province, located in the southern part of the country. Karshi, which means “fort†in Turkic, is on the site of Ghengis Khan’s summer pasture where he brought his horses to graze. Today, Karshi is home to about 200,000 people.
In this image you can see Karshi surrounded by agricultural fields and man-made irrigation channels. Karshi appears white, while the green and brown are the agricultural fields. The blue and black lines are the rivers and channels.
This Landsat 7 image of Karshi was acquired on February 9, 2003. This is a natural-color image using ETM+ bands 3, 2, and 1. Karshi falls on Landsat WRS-2 Path 156 Row 33.
